Day Eighteen, May 8, 2015

Tulsa to Amarillo via Oklahoma City, Clinton...
After being over served at the Poston's we embarked for a short drive to Oklahoma City to see the OKC National Memorial and Museum.  2015 is the 20th anniversary of the OKC bombing.

Tastefully done memorial but not a place I want to spend too much time.

Next stop, Clinton, OK the 1940's home of my mother.  This is a significant place in our family lore as my maternal grandfather worked on a major WPA project in Clinton building tennis courts, bandshell and swimming pool at the McLain Rogers Park.

We agreed that Clinton High School has the best high school mascot we have seen on our trip...the Clinton Red Tornados.

From Clinton we travel the length of the Oklahoma panhandle and enter our 3rd state panhandle, Texas.
All the things I remember of previous trips to CA along this route come back to me.  Endless vistas with not a lot to see.  We stop for lunch at Lucille's.

I finally get fired okra here.

We plunge further long this rolling plain and stop to take in the windy view and see approaching storms from miles away.
For those of you who  warned us of severe weather in our travel path during the May 7-9 time period we saw some dangerous lightening from a distance.  It seems we skirted around it and only dealt with driving rain.

What you don't see above is the non-stop wind and the sign warning of rattlesnakes.
arrived in Amarillo in time to do some grocery shopping and I finally found a cart Tom could use.

Next post we enter state 23 and better scenery.....
