Day Thirteen, May 3, 2015

Ahhhhh...New Orleans.....

F. T. Nicholls May 3, 2015
Cafeteria

It was 50 years ago that Tom and John met in the cafeteria of F. T. Nicholls High School in New Orleans.  This visit was the first time the two had been back to New Orleans together since November, 1966.

Tom's acting debut was on this stage at FTN, many audience members longed for it to be his last appearance but nooooooooo...It continues today.  This stage is also where we slept when we evacuated our homes in September 1965 due to Hurricane Betsy.

Mr. Gary Mouton, Office Manager for Arise Academy, a private elementary school occupying the FTN building escorted us around the old school and listened to our reminiscing about the years we spent there.  He also disclosed the location of some of the missing class photos that adorned the walls of the school from 1940 until the early 1970's.  We found the 1966 Rebel Yell staff and about 4 others from 1956 in a closet in the front office of the school.  The damage at the bottom of this photo was most likely due to Hurricane Katrina flooding the school in August, 2005.

See Day 14 for travel from New Orleans to Independence, LA for a reunion with another FTN buddy, Richard Schuman and on to Bossier City, LA for a reunion with Mike Tinsley & more factoids of trip trivia.
